As every year, the KCG had the oppiurtunity to participate in this year’s MEP (Model European Parliament) from the 7th to the 9th of november, in the abbey of Rolduc near the village of Kerkrade in the Netherlands, which is a simulation of the European parliament, where students from all over Europe come together to discuss and argue about current affairs and issues. This year we had a realatively small delegation consisting of only three delegates, Malak Abdellatif (J1), Philipp Kögel (8b) and Emma Eisele (8b) and one student officer Mya Morena (J1). Each student, except for the student officer one’s, was assigned a role of a party and committee member, trying to bring through their positions, which would be, after being discussed, sent over to the real life European parliament. This year we represented delegates from the fractions of S&D (Social Democrats), ECR (European Consevatives and Reformists) and EPP (European People’s party), and took part in the committtees of ITRE (Industry, Research and Energy), as well as in AFET (Foreign affairs), Mya also was the chair of AFCO (Constitutional affairs). We tried to bring through our fraction’s positions as best as possible, but in the end it didn’t always work out. Anyway we had a lot of fun over the weekend and could really improve our English skills. A huge thank you as well to Mr Unterseher and Mrs van Hove-Steege who accompanied us and we hope for more students to participate next year.
